The Blackfoot Old Fashioned is one of our favorite Sugar House original cocktails. For this drink we use rye as a base for the old fashioned instead of bourbon because the spicy dryness of the rye works well with the full sweetness of the maple syrup and warm baking spice flavors of the bitters and allspice. Our latest Knob Creek single barrel rye was the perfect choice to take this to the next level! If you’re going to use another rye we recommend picking one that’s at least 100 proof for best results.
2 oz. Knob Creek single barrel rye
3/8 Michigan maple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes St. Elizabeth allspice dram
Flamed orange peel
Mix all ingredients in a large rocks glass, add ice, and stir to properly chill and dilute the drink. Cut a quarter size slice from an orange peel and squeeze over a flame to caramelize essential oils into drink.
