Old Weller Antique 107 is widely considered to be the best value in bourbon, and for good reason.
OWA is a wheated bourbon that shares the same mash bill as the coveted Pappy Van Winkle, making it a worthy replacement for those who miss out on the annual fall release. Even better, a handful of bars and retail stores in each state get to hand select a private barrel of OWA each year. One of our favorites from the last year came from Big Tony at The Wine Garden.
We had the opportunity to learn more about his “Brotherhood of the Barrel” single barrel when he visited the Sugar House this week. Tony has a talent for picking great barrels and is always finding ways to support the bourbon community. This particular barrel was younger than most but the fact that you wouldn’t know it is a testament to his barrel selection philosophy. In addition to his own Wine Garden store picks, Tony regularly partners with the Michigan Bourbon Club to bring more interesting barrels to the state.
Check out this episode of Heard Podcast with Big Tony and MBC founder Patrick Moore to learn more about the group and the work they are doing (and then join!).
We’re excited to be able to offer a limited amount of this excellent Weller Antique single barrel at the Sugar House. Stop in and try some before it’s gone (ask for an MBC glass) and let us know what you think in the comments!
If you'd like to dive into the history of Weller, Pappy Van Winkle, and the famous Stitzel-Weller distillery check out the next Sugar House Drinking Team tasting on April 21st.
